Empowering Dreams. Changing Futures.

Far-right, Dr. Evelyn’s testimony about growing up in Honduras and the path that led her to become a doctor and want to give back.
“The Path That Shaped My Vocation”
My journey in medicine did not begin in a university classroom, but on the dirt paths I walked every morning. I vividly remember those hours-long walks, with the sun or the rain as my faithful companions, just to reach a school and pursue the dream of becoming someone who could change things.
In those days of effort, my driving force was my parents. With their hardworking hands, immense hearts, and a great desire for their children to break the chains that keep us from rising above, they pushed me not to give up. They taught me that the greatest wealth is what we carry in our minds and spirits. But I was not alone on the journey—people appeared who believed in me when I doubted myself, mentors and friends who saw my potential and gave me the push I needed to hold on to my goals.
Today, as a general physician, every day I visit my work area located in an underserved region. I do not just see patients—I see my own reflection in those children who walk long distances with their mothers, wearing shoes that are torn or covered in mud. My mission is to give back what I received: health and education. I know what it feels like to be a child who has talent but not the path, dreams but not the health.
Because I understand that a doctor in these communities does not only heal bodies, but must also be a bridge of hope and an educator who empowers those whom poverty tries to silence.
I could write many books detailing my story—for example, reading natural science every night or trying to solve math equations by the light of an oil lamp with smoke in my nose; or even traveling in the rain on a mule; the times my teacher Arturo eased my hunger—not just the hunger for knowledge; or the transition from my village to the city when I began my university life.
What is not told is also part of who I am. I close these lines knowing that my silence is, today, my greatest victory. Now I walk with slower steps but with the certainty that the journey continues.
I want to deeply thank Family Life Church for believing in this school project—bringing school supplies, uniforms, and everything necessary so that no child lacks a tool to study. Helping children was a dream I kept as something difficult to achieve, but the church and the love of God show us that nothing is impossible if we ask and long for it with all our hearts. Today it is fulfilled thanks to your commitment and teamwork. My heart overflows with joy and will be eternally grateful.
Finally, I want to express my greatest hope: that every dreamer finds in these tools the encouragement to conquer their goals. I dream of the day when we see this generation practicing their professions with pride and excellence—whether in classrooms, in courtrooms, in hospitals, or in engineering works. May God bless their hands and minds so that every dream becomes a profession of service.
Thank you very much for walking with me in this mission.
Special thanks to Fátima, Pastor Dan, his wife Diane, and the entire team for saying yes to my dream!
Pastor Humberto lives and works in Sambo Creek. Family Life missions teams have visited his church (Iglesias Luz y Verdad) and the local schools many times. Pastor Humberto and his wife Azucena have a heart for the children in their church and community.
Family Life is partnering with Pastor Humberto and the local schools in Sambo Creek to sponsor five children to attend school this year.

Where it Began
By 2026, Family Life Church had taken eight mission trips to the poorest of the poor parts of Honduras since 2020. The church missionaries have grown to know and love these precious children and their families. Past mission programs in Honduras have included Kids Camp, Music Camp, Medical Clinic help, Pastor’s conferences, Women’s conferences, and Sunday church services. While we pour out the love of Jesus, we have come to know these beautiful people better and we’ve seen the hinderance the lack of education is having there. Education is just not attainable to a large percentage of these families due to the financial barrier of required uniforms, books, and supplies.

General Donation to Honduras
Because of the lack of education, we have seen adult literacy struggling in these areas of Honduras. The Honduran government offers an adult learning program in their area which helps adults learn to read and write or increase their skills in these areas. Though the class is free, there is a cost for the reading and writing books as part of the class curriculum. Books for the adult classes cost $15 and classes are expected to last about six months.
You are invited to join us in donating towards the adult literacy program to help increase reading and writing of the adults in the local Honduran areas. In addition, we would like to offer an incentive for completing the adult classes by rewarding each “graduating” adult with a bag of food upon completion, as food is as scarce as education. The cost of the food bags will be about $20 each. If you would like to make a donation of any amount towards adult literacy in Honduras, please click on Adult Literacy button below. All donations are tax deductible.
Due to our constant contact with Dr. Evelyn, Pastor Humberto and many of the local people there, we often become of aware of many needs that go beyond education. Some examples of needs are: dental work, medications, emergency food, replacing old mattresses, lack of shoes, and various school supplies for unsponsored students. If you have it on your heart to make a general donation of any amount for the many needs that arise, please click on the General Donation button below. All donations are tax deductible.
