Mr. Perez and the Afternoon Class That's Changing Everything
Every great story has someone behind the scenes making it possible. For the 14 adult learners of Berlin, Honduras, that person is Mr. Perez.
Three afternoons a week, after a full day of teaching children, Mr. Perez sets up class in what might surprise you — not a traditional classroom, but a simple porch area, perhaps at the local clinic. Humble surroundings. And yet something powerful happens there.
His students arrive — adults who range in age, in background, and in story, but who share one common dream: to learn to read and write. And Mr. Perez meets them right where they are, in every sense of the word.
What he brings cannot be found in a curriculum guide. It is patience — the kind that sits with a frustrated student and says quietly, "Let's try again." It is compassion — the kind that understands that sitting down to learn as a grown adult takes incredible vulnerability. And it is skill — the ability to move each learner forward from exactly where they start.
Over seven months, he will guide these 14 students through reading, writing, and eventually basic math — skills that will change how they move through everyday life.
Mr. Perez does not see this as extra work. He sees it as a calling.
"These adults deserve this opportunity. It is never too late to learn."
We could not agree more.
Thank you Mr. Perez for showing up — twice a day, every day — for the people of Berlin, Honduras. You are changing everything.
